You must be registered on Final Forms by TODAY July 1st! *Attention- Important Cheer Update* YOU MUST READ IF YOU PLAN TO PARTICIPATE IN OPEN GYMS Next Tuesday, July 7th, we will start our in-person open gyms from 6pm-8pm @ Pickerington Central High School. It is imperative that we follow the guidelines put in place by our district for the safety and wellbeing of all students during this time. There are a few things that must be done prior to arriving for open gym. Student athletes must have a waiver submitted in person at their first open gym. This is a one-time wavier that can be located on our athletic website: pickeringtontigers.net and is listed under “more”, and titled “Athlete Wavier”. This waiver is filled out and signed by the student and their parent/guardian. The wavier acknowledges that you are aware and accept the risk of the student to participate in open gyms during this pandemic. Please print this form and the student will bring to the coaches upon checking in. The second addition that has been added to our requirements to meet in person for open gyms, is a Google Form that must be filled out by a parent/guardian each time before your student attends an open gym. This form will be used for the parent/guardian to check temperatures and symptoms of the student athlete participating in the open gym. The student must have their temperature taken and recorded on the form the same day and right before arrival to the open gym. You will find this form on our athletic website, pickeringtontigers.net, under “more”, and titled “High School Athlete Symptom Document/Ridgeview Athlete Symptom Document.” There are separate forms for High School and Junior High School. Please fill out accordingly. Your student will not be able to participate if we do not have their 1 time wavier or if their symptom check is not filled out at each open gym. This is required for all student athletes at Central High School. Other highlights: - Open Gyms are not mandatory but are highly encouraged. - Student must have Athletic clothing and proper Athletic Tennis Shoes to participate. - Physical Forms are not due until the first day of Clinics for tryouts (July 28th) - Hair should be kept up and away from face. - Students must have their own water bottles. They are not allowed to share with anyone and there is no water available for athletes at the building. - Students will not be allowed to use the locker room and must dress before open gyms and leave wearing the same clothing. - Athletes will be asked to social distance during open gyms Important Dates to remember: Open Gyms: July 7th 6pm- 8pm July 14th 6pm-8pm July 21st 6pm-8pm Tryout Info: Clinics: July 28th 6pm-8pm July 29th 6pm-8pm Tryouts: July 30th High School 3pm-5pm Junior High 6pm-8pm Squad Selection: July 31st 6pm Welcome to Week 4, let's cheer some more! We are going to challenge you this week to learn two new cheers: Yell out your colors Tigers and VICTORY. Make sure you are continuing to stretch, using tight motions, loud clear voices and spiriting. The VICTORY cheer is important to learn because you will use this cheer at the end of each game that your team wins! There are two videos below: one is a continuation of the 3 part series video from last week to get better hip & hamstring flexibility and improve your jumps. The other will focus on your core. This weeks task is to make sure you continue stretching, alternating conditioning, learn and demonstrate the two cheers.. You should be using tight motions, smiling and have fun with it. Email your best practiced performances to us at [email protected] It is mandatory that Student Athletes & Parent/Guardians complete the OHSAA and PLSD documents online.

Physical forms will need to be updated each school year. You will receive an email from Final Forms when the physical is due to expire. Athletic Website: pickeringtontigers.net Just DANCE.. it'll be okay! Welcome to Week 3. If you've been following along you have learned motions, jumps, a cheer, spiriting and now we are incorporating our traditional fight song dance. If you make any cheer squad this is one of the dances you will be expected to perform at the homecoming game along with the rest of the teams. If you make a varsity team you will do this dance EVERY GAME so it will need to be exemplary. Dance is a big part of cheerleading and you will demonstrate these skills at tryouts with a dance learned at a later date so this will be good practice. There are two videos below: one is a 3 part series we will post to get better hip & hamstring flexibility and improve your jumps. The other video is a mix of dance cardio and HIIT exercises to build strength and stamina, which is crucial for staying fit and to be able to cheer through long & hot games. In the video you will see three ripples-each girl in the video has a different ripple which means the part of the dance motions are broken down into different counts This weeks task is to make sure you continue stretching, alternating conditioning, pick a ripple of your choice and perform the fight song dance. You should be using tight motions, smiling and have fun with it. Email your best practiced performance to us at [email protected] . You survived week 1 doing jumps but now we need to correct our motions in order to clean up our appearance while we are jumping and cheering. This week you will focus on keeping your motions tight, voice projection, learning a cheer and adding spirit! When fans come to the game they love to see us cheering loudly and most of all spiriting. It keeps them excited and engages them to cheer with us. We hope you still continued to stretch and practice jumps throughout the week it is very important. We are adding workouts that you can practice alternating to build up your strength. For example don't only focus on lower body, or do it once and never again. Try to do at least one video up to 4-5 times a week. What is Spiriting? Spiriting is what we do in between and after cheers or dances. This can be smiling while waving you're arms simultaneously, an individual or team jump, a kick, tumbling or yelling GO TIGERS. One thing we NEVER DO is yell WHOOO! WHOO0=NOT Spiriting. Voice Projection-Make sure when you are cheering your team mates and crowd can hear you clearly but loudly and most importantly do not sing the cheers.Keep it natural to avoid sounding screechy yell with a natural relaxed voice. Make eye contact with the crowd and SMILE:) Cheerleaders Breathing Exercise - Diaphragm Breathing Use your voice from your diaphragm. This exercise will help you utilize your diaphragm in an efficient way and help to strengthen this muscle. Here's how to do it:
Important tip* When you are doing a cheer we say the words 3x then you end clean and spirit! This weeks tasks include: learning a cheer, practicing doing motions and showing spirit. You will email [email protected] a video of yourself demonstrating all motions and completing cheer (Tigers in the House). Please make sure the video is fully visible of yourself so coaches are able to give feedback. Good Luck!
Welcome to the first open gym. These are to help prepare you for cheerleading tryouts. These are not mandatory but it is highly encouraged for you to participate. To start it is very important for you to always stretch. This will help with flexibility and to prevent injury. We highly suggest you perform these stretches daily and do workouts more than once a week to increase your strength and skills. For this weeks virtual open gym we ask that you perform these stretches and use these exercises to improve your jump technique. These are the following jumps you should be practicing : Pike, Varsity, Double Varsity, Left and Right Herkie and Hurdler. Once you feel confident please share a video of yourself demonstrating a Varsity and your best optional jump that is not another varsity. Please put your name on the video and email us at [email protected] to allow us to provide feedback:)
